When “86" is used as a transitive verb, it means “to get rid of,” or “to refuse to serve (a customer).” In otherwords, Toyota “Eighty-sixed the Scion brand.” Or “The Toyota dealer is now 86ing teens that want to test drive their sportscar without a parent signed permission slip.” Bravo Toyota on keeping that slang game hot.

“The Toyota dealer is now 86ing teens that want to test drive their sportscar without a parent signed permission slip.”
The correct term for this in sales language is “broom, brooming or broomed”. As in “That dummy got 86'ed for brooming that kid in the Acura”.

As a rebranding, Lexus makes a lot of sense. Infiniti less so, but it sort of works. Acura is the same story - if they’d built hot Hondas or luxurious Hondas, I don’t think they would have lost one sale. Maybach was/is just silly. And I never understood Scion - would any of their offerings have not sold with a Toyota badge? I do not think so.

Yeah Scion never made sense, Toyotas have high resale value as it is, it’s not like they are thought to be a lowly brand. I saw a Scion IM today, I was like, WTF is that? When is Scion dead? They have a new model or I just haven’t seen them around?

Scion: if we take the drivers that beat the shit out of cars like Chris Brown does girls and give them another brand Toyota still looks great on JD Power charts.

To be fair, 86 could majorly refer to the piece of shit Toyota from the 80s. I always wondered why people wanted shittastic Corolla shaped French fries.

86 was(is) the number code for disassociated customers in places of entertainment. ie., They’re never allowed back at that casino they disassociate from and if they do attempt to come back its trespassing.
